Ninjas Hired to Silence Movie Goers!

Well, it's about time, no? If ever there was a reason to move to the UK, this is it! London's Prince Charles Cinema is said to be employing volunteer “ninjas” to regulate good behavior among the audience. If only they were armed.

The so-called ninjas are ordinary cinephiles who agree to “guard” screenings in exchange for free admission. When they spot a patron talking, texting, throwing popcorn, kicking seats, or otherwise engaging in rude behavior, they swoop down to give the jerk in question a talking-to.

One of the program’s recent targets, moviegoer Abdul Stagg, recounted his experience:

"I normally hate noisy people in cinemas, but I got a call from my friend just as the movie started and thought I could get away with taking it. The last thing I expected was two completely blacked-out people suddenly appearing by our seats and [giving] me and my mates a warning to shut up. It was actually pretty terrifying at first, but then I realised it was a bit of a laugh and a great way to make it clear what I was doing was having an impact on those around me. It certainly made me hang up and shut up for the rest of the film."

The scheme came about when Morphsuits co-founder Gregor Lawson found himself fed up with the inconsiderate audiences he ran into at the theater. Lawson’s Edinburgh-based company is known for their skintight full-body “zentai” suits, and he wondered if he could use his products to help solve the problem.

"I’m a big fan of going to the cinema, but there’s an unspoken code of conduct when you’re watching a movie that some people just don’t understand. Then, when some fans were discussing being ninjas in their Morphsuits on our Facebook page, I had a 'eureka' moment. I thought I’d find a cinema and see if we could bring a lighthearted task force to the aid of movie fans.”

Please, for the love of sweet baby Jesus lying quietly in his manger, bring this practice to the United States like yesterday. If only for the eventual lawsuits that are bound to happen. Sit tight, kids! And shut the hell up!

Toronto Film Festival Opens: Joseph Gordon-Levitt Gets a Bruce Willis Makeover

If you want to look like Bruce Willis, it will take you at least three hours ever day in a makeup chair.

That's how long it took Jospeh Gordon-Levitt, 31, to look like a younger Willis, 57, in Looper, their new action thriller which premieres tonight at the opening of the Toronto International Film Festival.

Written and directed by Gordon-Levitt's Brick director Rian Johnson, Looper (in theaters Sept. 28) is a time-traveling mind-bender about a group of men in 2044 called loopers who assassinate people sent to them from the future.

Gordon-Levitt stars as a looper on the hunt to kill himself, only 30 years older and played by—you guessed it!—Willis.

"He only could drink these protein shakes during the day because oil from food would mess up his makeup," Johnson said, adding with a laugh, "He was tired, hungry and uncomfortable during the entire shoot. But he was a real trooper. I was very impressed."

Rounding out the cast are Emily Blunt, Jeff Daniels, Piper Perabo and Paul Dano. And then there's Pierce Gagnon, a child actor who was just 5 when they shot the movie. His acting is beyond impressive, playing a child with special telekinetic powers.

"He's our secret weapon," Johnson said. "We would sit down and do three-page dialogue scenes straight through and then you would tell him an adjustment for half-way through the scene and we would do the scene again and he would make the adjustment perfectly.

"But he wasn't an adult in a 5-year-old's body," he continues. "In between takes he was a normal kid, getting fidgety and antsy."

As for tonight's Toronto Film Fest gala, Johnson said, "I'm getting so excited. We have had the movie finished for three or four months so it's sort of been like this waiting game. I'm just extraordinarily ready for people to start seeing it."

Vera Farmiga Is Norma Bates In TV Series 'Psycho' Prequel 'Bates Motel'

One of the most tantalizing projects headed to the small screen, but also one of the riskiest, is A&E's "Bates Motel." Earlier this summer, the network skipped the whole pilot episode thing and ordered up ten episodes of the show for a 2013 premiere, and it seems the wheels are beginning to turn now. And this first bit of casting puts on face on a famed movie character that only existed as voice in Alfred Hitchock's "Psycho," which this series will serve as a prequel to.

Vera Farmiga will play Norma Bates in "Bates Motel," providing one half of the key relationship with Norman Bates in the show that will chronicle his teenage years before he became a serial killer. And it's hard to argue with the casting. Farmiga is a strong actress -- who has shown her stuff both on the small and big screen -- and perhaps it's a hint that the show will be much more than something just riding the coattails of an established film (like "The Transporter" is doing). Indeed, the network has intriguingly called the show a cross between "Twin Peaks" and "Smallville" and while that sounds promising, "Lost" producer, writer and showrunner Carlton Cuse resumes that latter role here alongside Kerry Ehrin, which gives us pause.

Anthony Cipriano ("Twelve And Holding") penned the pilot but no word on yet on who will direct. But first, they'll need to find their Norman. Any suggestions?

First Look at Chloë Moretz and Julianne Moore in 'CARRIE'

A re-adaptation/remake of Carrie is developing from Kimberly Peirce, who proved to possess the delicate touch necessary for handling a fictional tale like Stephen King’s with her direction on Boys Don’t Cry (based on the true story about a transgender teen brutalized by her peers). The first images from Peirce’s film have been released, offering an early look at her contemporary re-interpretation of Carrie White (played by Chloë Grace Moretz) and her mother Margaret (Julianne Moore).

Sissy Spacek as Carrie in her blood-drenched prom dress (from De Palma’s film) has become an iconic cinematic image, so it’s fitting that one of the first official pics from Peirce’s project reveals Moretz likewise doused in bloody sludge. The 15-year old actress kept her tongue pressed firmly in-cheek while playing a killer masked vigilante in Matthew Vaughn’s satirical Kick-Ass, Moretz later adapted a beyond-her-years manner to portray an elder vampire trapped in a child’s body in Let Me In. Carrie, however, calls for a more humanizing performance from Moretz, as an innocent young girl horrified when she releases the monster within – and, judging by the expression on her face in the first image, Moretz has nailed it.

Julianne Moore likewise looks more ordinary as Margaret White in the second pic from Peirce’s Carrie, as opposed to Piper Laurie’s Oscar-nominated turn in De Palma’s movie (with her expansive, curly 1970s ‘do that almost recalls Bride of Frankenstein). Laurie is mesmerizing in the role, for certain, but Moore explained to Entertainment Weekly that her hope is to sketch Margaret as less a deranged Christian Fundamentalist stereotype and more a broken woman who “has clearly had a psychotic break, perhaps several… and here’s this poor child in the thrall of this person who is seriously ill. And on top of that, they have this mother-daughter relationship. So we want to make that relationship as meaningful as possible, even though it is horrible and destructive.”

The Carrie remake script was penned by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, a co-showrunner and writer on Ryan Murphy’s other ongoing hit television series Glee. Moreover, before Sacasa started contributing creatively to Murphy’s high school musical dramedy creation, he worked on HBO’s polygamist family drama Big Love. Hence, his experience working on both shows should inform his approach to updating Carrie, hopefully culminating in a final film that realizes King’s story in a fashion that resonates with modern moviegoers – while also bringing out new dimensions to the characters that allow it to stand apart as a worthwhile endeavor, even when stacked up against De Palma’s revered movie adaptation.

Carrie opens in U.S. theaters on March 13th, 2013.

'Top Gun' Director Tony Scott Dies in apparent Suicide

Director Tony Scott jumped off the Vincent Thomas bridge near Long Beach on Sunday and died from his injuries.

The Los Angeles coroner confirmed to TheWrap that Anthony David Scott of Beverly Hills jumped off the bridge and died on Sunday. That is Scott's full name, and the British-born director has lived in Los Angeles for many years.

The U.S. Coast Guard told The Daily Breeze that a suicide note was found inside Scott's black Toyota Prius, which was parked on one of the eastbound lanes of the bridge.

Scott is a well-known Hollywood director who is best known for high-octane action movies including "Top Gun," "Crimson Tide" and many other hit movies. He is the brother of Ridley Scott, another prominent director, both born in England. They are partners in a production company, Scott Free Productions.

His most recent movies were "Unstoppable" and "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3."

He was also in the process of exploring a sequel to his biggest hit, "Top Gun 2."

The Vincent Thomas Bridge is a suspension bridge over Los Angeles Harbor that links San Pedro with Terminal Island. It appears frequently in films and television.

More to come..

An All Female Expendables movie planned

Just as "The Expendables 2" explodes into theaters, Adi Shankar's banner 1984 Private Defense Contractors has tapped Dutch Southern to write an all-female riff on the star-studded action franchise.

Shankar ("The Grey") will produce for 1984 Private Defense Contractors, which plans to fully finance the "Expendables"-inspired project. Company is already in talks with several prominent actresses affiliated with the action genre.

My question to you is who would you like to see in an ALL FEMALE Expendable-esque film?

Porn Stars to Mainstream Stars? James Deen and Lindsay Lohan in The Canyons

This is currently a trend and one I understand.

It's marketing, pure and simple.  Conservative American can scoff at it and say it's a terrible thing, but Porn is a Billion dollar a year business, and most likely, the conservative screaming about it is also the one downloading it.

Having said that, many of you know that there has been some people who have transfered over from porn to regular films.  Some have had successful careers at it, Traci Lords and Ron Jeremy are two of them.  We can argue that though Jenna Jameson is not the best actress in the world, her turn in Zombie Strippers was pretty good and it was a role that suited her well.

Now here comes a new film, The Canyons.

Starring Lindsay Lohan and Porn Star James Deen.  From Director Paul Schrader (American Gigolo) and writer Bret Easton Ellis (novel: American Psycho).

This is marketing gold.  I'll tell you why.  Watch this ABC interview with Deen from February 2012.  You'll see what his fan base is and why putting him in a lead role opposite someone we all know, will only increase sales on the film.

River Phoenix's Last Film 'Dark Blood' to Debut at Film Festival in September

COLOGNE, Germany - Dutch director George Sluizer has finally finished Dark Blood, the movie actor River Phoenix was working on when he died of a heart attack in 1993 on Halloween night outside the Viper Room in Los Angeles.

Sluizer will present the film for the first time at the Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht in September. It will compete for the festival's Golden Calf award. The Sept. 27 premiere will be in front of a special guest audience.

THR first broke the story last year that Sluizer was finishing the film he abandoned nearly 20 years ago. The 80-year-old director secured post-production and editing financing to complete the film from the Netherlands Film Fund as well as some cash via Dutch crowdfinancing site Cinecrowd.

Dutch production house Eyeworks helped Sluizer navigate the legal issues surrounding the film. After Phoenix's death, Sluizer confiscated the Dark Blood footage and took it back to the Netherlands. He kept it hidden, fearing, he said, that it otherwise might have been destroyed.

In the film, River Phoenix plays Boy, a young widower living on a nuclear testing site in the desert. While he waits for the end of the world, Boy carves Katchina dolls that supposedly contain magical powers. His life is disrupted when a Hollywood jet-set couple travelling across the desert become stranded after their car breaks down. Boy rescues the couple and then takes them prisoner. Dark Blood also stars Judy Davis, Jonathan Pryce and Karen Black.

Sluizer is best-known for his 1988 thriller Spoorloos, remade as The Vanishing (1993) starring Jeff Bridges and Kiefer Sutherland.

In addition to the Dark Blood premiere, the 2012 Netherlands Film Festival will also screen a retrospective of Sluizer's work and will publish a book on the director's life.

Thomas Jane Returns in The Punisher: Dirty Laundry

Question:
What's the difference between justice and punishment?

This is the question that is asked of the audience on the YouTube page for this "fan" film Thomas Jane has just released.
For those of you who are fans of Jane's portrayal of The Punisher in 2004, then you'll really enjoy him revisiting this character.

"I wanted to make a fan film for a character I've always loved and believed in - a love letter to Frank Castle & his fans. It was an incredible experience with everyone on the project throwing in their time just for the fun of it. It's been a blast to be a part of from start to finish -- we hope the friends of Frank enjoy watching it as much as we did making it." -- Thomas Jane

This is well done and hang around till about 6mins in or so when it picks up and you get a cameo from the always awesome Ron Pearlman!

Shia Labeouf gets naked for Sigur Rós video. Why?

This is an interesting move for Mr. Transformers himself Shai Labeouf, who is now gearing himself up to be an action star thanks to Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay.

It's a long way from his days on Even Stevens.

I guess when you're trying to grow up in Hollywood getting naked in an artsy foreign bands music video is one way to do it.

Nathan Fillion has a Card He Gives to Fans at Comic-Con

Nathan Fillion  just keeps upping himself in my book as one of the nicest, fan friendly, actors on the planet.

You know he's a busy guy.  He's adored by fans from his run on "Firefly" and now "Castle".  He's been in James Gunn's "Slither" and "Super" as well as made an appearance in Gunn's "PG PORN" Webseries called "Nailing Your Wife" (see below)

Fans love him and he loves his fans.

But what happens when he's swarmed and just can't meet the demands of a Comic Con hero?

He gives you this:

Yup.  Pretty awesome if you ask me.

Now, this is only when Fillion is running to a panel or a screening he must make at the event.  Other then that, he'll gladly stop, chat and sign things.  More actors should be like him.

Warner Bros Digs out Classic Horror for DVD Release

The Warner Archive Collection is a manufacture-on-demand (MOD) DVD series that specializes in putting previously unreleased films on DVD for the first time. Recently they dug deep into their vast history of classic horror and selected some winners to resurrect.

The Warner Archive Collection can make a wide array of films available because they don't actually create the DVD until it is ordered by a customer. This way, they are not taking a chance of getting stuck with a large amount of inventory if a selected title doesn't sell. You'll certainly recognize some of the horror films the Warner Archive Collection has added to its library, but there are a couple of really obscure ones in there as well. Take a look at the list of what's been made available and plan your shopping list now.

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (1973) Although the recent remake featuring the suddenly single Katie Holmes had a real buzz behind it, this is the original version, the made-for-television film that suddenly made furnaces something to be feared. Directed by John Newland, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark stars Kim Darby, Jim Hutton and William Demarest. And of course it features some of the creepiest little goblin-things you'll ever see.

Dark of the Sun (1968) This adventure-war film stars Rod Taylor, Yvette Mimieux, Jim Brown and Peter Carsten. It's also known as The Mercenaries in the UK and can be thought of as an early forerunner for The Expendables. However, horror fans may be interested to know that Dark of the Sun director Jack Cardiff was reviled upon the release of this film for its scenes of graphic violence, torture and overall nastiness. Sounds like a war film the readers of Dread Central can really embrace.

Night School (1981) When people talk about 80s slashers, this is what they're referring to. Night School is a perfect example of what we all loved about the good ol' days of horror. Nothing too heavy, nothing too crazy…just a classic slasher from the time when slashers ruled. Night School stars Leonard Mann, Rachel Ward (in her film debut) and Drew Snyder. It's directed by Ken Hughes.

Killer Party (1986) Another from the golden days of the slasher, Killer Party takes things even one step further, including a sorority and an abandoned house in the storyline of the film. Now we're really talking! The film features Elaine Wilkes, Sherry Willis-Burch, Joanna Johnson and Martin Hewitt, with William Freut directing.

Hysteria (1965) An American wakes up in an English hospital after a car accident unable to remember anything about himself. He finds he has nothing but a photo torn from a magazine and realizes he may be the missing piece to solving a murder case…or is it just another hallucination? Freddie Francis directed this thriller which stars Robert Webber, Anthony Newlands and Jennifer Jayne.

Black Zoo (1963) One of the more violent and gore-filled offerings from the Warner Archive Collection, Black Zoo tells the story of a zookeeper cult leader who uses the animals under his care to do his evil, murderous bidding! Nice! Robert Gordon directed and Herman Cohen produced this little hidden gem of a film. Michael Gough, Jeanne Cooper, Rod Lauren and Virginia Grey star.

Warner Archive also offers some other titles that aren't exactly horrific but certainly loaded with mystery, intrigue, sci-fi and action.

PT-109 (1963) This is an action-packed war film depicting the heroics of President John F. Kennedy during his time as a member of the United States Navy. Cliff Robertson plays JFK. The film also stars Ty Hardin, James Gregory and Robert Culp. PT-109 was directed by Leslie H. Martinson.

The Falcon Mystery Movie Collection: Volume 1 (1941-1943) This is a three-DVD collection of seven films created in the early 40's featuring the mysterious Falcon. The titles included in this collection are The Gay Falcon, A Date with the Falcon, The Falcon Takes Over, The Falcon's Brother, The Falcon Strikes Back, The Falcon in Danger and The Falcon and the Co-Eds. George Sanders and Tom Conway star in the films. Certainly not the most horrific film in the bunch, but cool mysteries round out the collection nicely.

"The Girl From U.N.C.L.E., Part 1 & 2" (1966-1967) This spy-fi spin-off from the popular show "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." ran for one season and Warner Archive has that season in its entirety right here. The show starred Stephanie Powers as super-spy April Dancer. The series follows her adventures battling evildoers with martial arts and espionage skills.

"The Herculoids: The Complete Series" (1968) A Hanna-Barbera animated series from the late 60's about diverse space survivors living on a utopian planet. Unfortunately, they are constantly being harassed by the likes of Pod Creatures, the Reptons and the Mutoids…what a bunch of creeps. Thankfully The Herculoids are ever-diligent. The series features the voices of Mike Road, Virginia Gregg, Ted Eccles and Don Messick.

Ron Pearlman get's all "HELLBOY" for MAKE-A-WISH

I couldn't pass this story up when I read it.

Working in Show Business gives some people such a huge ego that you can't even stand to be in a room with them.
But here is an Actor, a very successful Actor at that, Mr. Ron Pearlman ('Sons of Anarchy) taking the time to make one kid's wish come true.

I love this.  More Actors should be this humble and give their time and in some cases, their characters, over to the public.

According to Spectral Motion (via SuperHeroHype), the special effects house that worked on the two "Hellboy" flicks, Zachary (seen above with Ron) wanted to meet and become the red, horned comic book hero for a day.

With Spectral Motion's help, Perlman was transformed into the hulking hero -- an idea he reportedly "loved."
Zachary was also done up in red makeup so he could step into Hellboy's hooves for a bit too.

Lionsgate's Motion Poster for 'Dredd' Teasing a Comic-Con Screening

Everyone is getting ready for next weeks Comic-Con panels and looks like Lionsgate is going to get your attention with this poster.

I recently had a conversation with Director Sage Hall about Motion Graphic Posters.

A few years ago they released one for Terminator Salvation and A Haunting in Connecticut but I don't think they were a hit.

Technology being what it is now, I'm positive we will be seeing many more of these in the future.  Since Magazines and News Papers will be a thing of the past in 5-10 years. Digital Advertising will have to step up and be more creative and entertaining.

Take a look at the new DREDD 3D motion graphics poster art.

Dredd 3D opens in theaters on September 21.  Check out JudgementIsComing.com where you can register and learn more about the screening at Comic-Con.

Jamie Lee Curtis to appear at HorrorHound Convention in November!

The rumors are true.

Jamie Lee Curtis has agreed to attend her first-ever horror convention. ...

And it will also be her last!

Jamie Lee Curtis has signed on as the guest of honor at this November's HorrorHound Weekend event. The event will take place over the weekend of November 16-18th, 2012 at the Indianapolis Marriott East, 7202 East 21st Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46219.

Jamie Lee Curtis will be appearing at the event on both Saturday (November 17th) and Sunday (November 18th) for autograph sessions, photo-ops and an on-stage Q/A panel which is sure to be epic. This is a landmark opportunity for fans, as Jamie has never attended an event like this, nor provided horror fans with the opportunity to have their memorabilia signed in such a capacity. And it's all for charity, via the Starlight Children's Foundation. ALL monies earned from Jamie's autograph sessions, photo-ops and stage event will go directly to the Starlight Children's Foundation. In fact, part of the proceeds from HorrorHound Weekend's ticket sales will also be donated to this amazing charity as we will also be taking donations at the event for anyone wishing to help this cause further. More details about the charity and other ways you can help will be listed on this event's Web site when it is launched next month.

In conjunction with Jamie Lee Curtis' jump into the world of horror conventions, Jamie wanted to make sure that it was expressed that this will be a one time only appearance. Once this event is over, Jamie Lee Curtis will be retiring from the horror convention scene making this appearance all the more important for all those fans who have been patiently waiting for this moment and opportunity to meet one of the most iconic actors in horror history. This is IT!

Jamie Lee Curtis, daughter of actors Janet Leigh (Psycho) and Tony Curtis, began her horror career in one of the most important genre films ever produced: John Carpenter's Halloween (1978)! As central character, Laurie Strode, she helped create the modern day scream queen. This was firmly established thanks to her follow-up roles in The Fog, Prom Night, Terror Train and Road Games.
